This man is bringing milk directly from his small cow farm into a house that sells it to the people in the neighborhood in town. People will bring their own containers to buy milk at that house. They will bring bottles, open pails, cooking pans, old plastic milk bottles, water pitchers, and even cereal bowls to save money. He has two 5 or 6 gallon containers on his pack mule. It is not refrigerated but do so I hope the milk is pasteurized and is safe to drink. It is fresh each morning - it might be still warm from the cow to you. Durante 32 años Casa Hotel Nicarao ha estado sirviendo a Estelí. Haga clic aquí para ver más fotos. Shortly after the war ended in 1979 a pleasant hotel near Central Park opened it's door to guests in this fresh air mountain city of 120,000. The red beans are being screened and sorted for size, color and impurities. Our bean baby is bragging to his mother how excellent they are for Gallo Pinto.

A skinny horse in the city This is a common sight here in Estelí. High-spirited horse blocks a truck full of horses. On Sunday there was a horse show there were several truck loads of horses brought in from the farms. It looks like this horse didn't want to go along for the ride. A horse waiting for its caballero in the store. The owner of this horse stopped to get some goodies to eat at the show down the road. It's Semana Santa (Holy Week) here in Estelí, Nicaragua, Central America. Thursday and Friday almost every business was closed and the steel shutters were down and padlocked and the streets were nearly empty. The many buses and taxis that normally fill the streets were missing. The Roman Catholic influence is pervasive and all encompassing. Thousands of worshippers walked slowly and somberly, protected from the sun by their umbrellas, behind the procession of priests carrying a statue representing Jesus down the empty streets from the Church of Calvary to the Cathedral in front of the central park 12 blocks away. Many people go to mass every afternoon and have prayer vigils in their homes. Such a reverence for Jesus I have never seen in the US. Happy Resurrection Day I am standing near a working armed Russian helicopter that was in service during the Revolution. It is still ready today. I got to tour the inside but they weren't givng rides. The army base in Estelí is about a mile from Las Mujeres Ambientalistas project where I volunteer.
